Hi,

My bottom bracket has some play in it and I wanted to swap myself.

Canyon say I need a BSA, 73 mm BB.

Can someone link to one that is suitable?

Also, what tools do I need and how simple is it?

I have done this on previous bike but this BB looks different.

Thanks,

Mick

73mm BSA describes the bottom bracket shell (the part of the frame the BB sits in) not what BB you have/need which could be one of about 7 different types and with internal bearings you can add on a range of axle widths as well.
Currently riding a Whyte T130C, X0 drivetrain, Magura Trail brakes converted to mixed wheel size (homebuilt wheels) with 140mm Fox 34 Rhythm and RP23 suspension. 12.2Kg.

    That doesn't really help.

try posting some pictures, or answer the questions.

Crankset on that bike is a SRAM S1000 (according to the Canyon website) so I guess GXP bottom bracket (canyon website says S1000 bottom bracket too).

I'd reckon this is a likely candidate. Would need the removal tool I presume too?

    Canyon have suggested incorrectly.
You have a SRAM chainset so need a SRAM or compatible bb.

  • I guess that they thought I needed that based of the original spec.

    Chainset was changed last year.

    So what do I need?

What was chainset changed to? The point is the original spec was a GXP bottom bracket for a SRAM crankset. It doesn't make too much sense that Canyon have recommended a BB which isn't the same as the BB they originally fitted.

If its already been changed from a GXP bottom bracket and SRAM crankset its important to know what they've been changed to - do you know / can you describe?

You definitely have a SRAM GXP chainset. Therefore you need a SRAM GXP bottom bracket.

One of THESE or one of THESE will do the job. I think they are the same bb with slightly different descriptions. Get whichever is cheapest when you look.

The letters 'G', 'X' & 'P' printed on the spider are a bit of a give away.

You say that the chainset was replaced last year: are you confusing this with the chain ring? You appear to have a Shimano chainring fitted to the chainset.

  • That makes sense. Chainset is the chain ring and arms. Chain ring is just the ring. I just had the chain ring replaced because it was worn. The crank arms will be original.

Are you 100% sure these will fit?

What tools do I need? I did one a Rockhopper years ago.

    Thanks for your help.

  • Just spoke to Chain Reaction Cycles and they suggested:

English thread 68/73mm. SRAM Alloy GXP Bottom Bracket
X-Tools Pro Shimano Bottom Bracket Wrench

    Sound OK?

    Is it easy to swap?

As long as you have the correct tool it's easy.
Unscrew old bb, screw in new bb. Simples. :)
