Fotheringham wrote Wiggins's book which covered that period. It's specific arse-covering on his part.

not pointing the finger at anyone other than Fotheringham but that book includes at least one and maybe more references to a no needle policy by sky which has since been proven to be rubbish!

Journalism has always been pretty poor, but now it is easy to fact check stuff and discredit a journalist. Hopefully, a new generation of journalists will rise up.

Afraid I think its going the other way...

The new breed of journalists might not work for publishing companies, but may come in the form of bloggers e.g. Inner Ring.

You're mixing up different types of producers of content

What's the difference between a blogger and an opinion piece in the guardian? (not a joke).

Those descriptions cover a wide range of people. What generally links them is they are all trying to push some sort of agenda or increase their own profile. I would also suggest that Guardian opinion writers are linked by a misplaced sense of moral superiority.

What makes Inrng special and why he is highly regarded is that he appears devoid of all of this. He genuinely seems to just do it because he likes writing about cycling. No agenda, no ego, no profit.

This is kind of my point. There are people with integrity and time who are now able to blog about things and research articles. Previously the reader had no chance to access such content, but now they do. Hence why I said things could improve.

Things will start improving when people start paying for content again.

I, on the other hand, feel that such people are few in number, particularly when commenting on polarising issues. They get drowned out by the more numerous eye-catching clickbait articles which appeal to one side of the issue.

This is why I'll be happy to pay for FT once my current free access expires (I am aware I will get flamed for this opinion) - the reporting seems much better researched and less inflammatory/clickbaity than most other media outlets because they don't need to attract readers with tawdry headlines and accusations.

Their sports coverage is a bit pants mind  - although their World Cup cheat sheets are pretty handy!

If you're not paying for the news, either you're the product, or it's propaganda.

I don't think paying changes that.

The BBC are clearly on to something as they have people paying for propaganda.

The left complain about BBC right wing bias, the right complain about BBC left wing bias. I'm not going to guess which side you're on. The only thing I'll say is that if you've ever lived anywhere else, then you'll know how good the BBC is in comparison.

Talking to Brits I always have the impression of talking to people in North Korea.

Please explain, and tell me how the media is where you're from.

How many people in North Korea are you in regular contact with?

That is absolute nonsense, unfair and a gross insult to the average North Korean.
