Storing Bike Boxes etc

I'm not a total newbie to this touring mularky, having done Munich to Venice (supported), London to Paris (unsupported) and West Wales to Cardiff via Aberystwth (unsupported) in the last few years, but I still have one problem that I can't get around.
What do you do with your bike bag/ case when you're on the bike ?
Say I want to do a 3 or 4 day route across France next year. I'd pack my bike in a flight bag/ case and get fly to the nearest airport, but what do I do with the flight case whilst I'm away enjoying myself ?
I can typically pick the start and finish destinations so that I can jump on a train with the bike and get back to where I started from, but haven't really figured out a solution to the bike bag storage.

Store it in the airport left-luggage office.
See if you can find a bike shop near to the airport that will store it for you (bung them a few €s).
Use a "disposable" cardboard bike box scrounged from your LBS, then hope to do the same on your way home.
Don't fly, use the Eurostar and French trains. I've done this a few times, and it works well.0
