I did a 90 km sportive yesterday (very wet, but happy at 3:30 time). Thursday evening was going to be spent fettling the bike and being ready to go first thing Friday morning. Then a bike came up for sale on our work classified ads system, so in the end Thursday evening was spent driving to Twickenham to collect a Fuji Altamira 2.7. Usual story - boy buys bike, boy does L2B and rides twice more, boy parks bike, time passes, girl tells boy to sell unused bike... that's where I come in.

It's mostly Tiagra-shod so I might move the 105 stuff over from my older alloy Synapse, as well as the Mavic Ksyrium Elite wheels (I'll weigh them against the Fuji's stock Oval wheels). I have some 'guards for the 'dale so now I can say "winter bike" and "summer bike" (as opposed to just "bike" until now). I opted to do the sportive on the Synapse as I know it and had no time to shake down the Fuji. Besides, it was very wet and the Fuji is a summer bike, remember?

TL;DR - N+1 happened, in carbon fibre.
Cube Reaction GTC Pro 29 for the lumpy stuff
Cannondale Synapse alloy with 'guards for the winter roads
Fuji Altamira 2.7 for the summer roads
Trek 830 Mountain Track frame turned into a gravel bike - for anywhere & everywhere

Well done. I would say oval wheels are not ideal. You want the special extra round ones.

Have you actually tried riding with them though?
  • Are they oval or elliptical?

  • Good.

Now, what's this thread about? Is it just to make sure the signal to noise ratio on this forum stays as low as possible?

Oval wheels will minimise the deadspot. Fact!
