Hello, I recently bought a Montague Paratrooper. The bike weights around 31-32 pounds. I know the bike uses standard mountain bike components so they can be changed. What bike parts can be changed on this bike to make it weigh less? I don't like the suspension fork so will be replacing that with a rigid fork. Is carbon fibre good? Will it make it weigh less? If anyone has a Montague, could you please help me on which parts I can change to make the bike lighter.

Thanks.

Mossy lightweight aluminium forks are lighter than many carbon forks and have some give so are quite comfy, not really stiff enough for anything rougher than natural single track and fire roads though.

As for the rest, you can change everything except the frame if you so want, brakes, cranks, gears, wheels, tyres, nothing is montage specific (in fact it's sold as a frame only option).
Currently riding a Whyte T130C, X0 drivetrain, Magura Trail brakes converted to mixed wheel size (homebuilt wheels) with 140mm Fox 34 Rhythm and RP23 suspension. 12.2Kg.

I have a Brompton. I could get lightweight kit for it but all the weights in the frame. I'd think it's the case here. You can spend a lot and make bugger all difference.

Nothing on that bike is really lightweight, but decent tyres (folding) will probably save you about a kilo for relatively small outlay, swapping to Mosso (ignore typo above) forks (check eBay, get the right a2c) about another 1.5Kg. Consider also 1x gearing, that is an easy 1/3 Kg, you can use the 8speed rear mech just shifter, cassette, chain and chainring to go 1x9.
