Worrying cracks?

Hi,
I noticed a couple of slightly worrying looking cracks around the drop-outs of my Ribble Gran Fondo - photos below. I'm assuming that the drop-outs themselves are not carbon so I'm hoping that the cracks are where the material changes and are just cracks in the paint. They are almost identical location and shapes on each of the seat stays. I have taken the wheel out and tried to manipulate the drop outs to see if there is any movement - there is no flex whatsoever which suggests to me that the integrity of the frame is sound. The frame is about 5 years old. Would appreciate any thoughts. Thanks.

  • It's the paint, had the same thing on several bikes. If you are concerned send the pics through to Ribble just for peace of mind.

I agree with Sloppy, but I do seem to recall this is a common thing on the Ribble Gran Fondo and that it's only the paint cracking?

    Get it checked though.

Will definitely check with Ribble but I'm fairly confident that it is just paint. Rightly or wrongly, I rode 50 odd miles or so on it this morning and it is no different. Thanks for the replies.

I've got a Gran Fondo as has a colleague. Both bikes have the same cracking. At the time Ribble offered to look/repair but there was a few others reporting the same I didn't bother. Never had any problems with it.

Riding that would be tantamount to committing suicide. Sent it to me for safe disposal.
