Help Sprockets stuck together

Hi, I've just removed the shimano cassette from my old bike (with no problem), but now the actual sprockets are stuck together. It's like the spacers have become a glue. It wasn't cleaned for over a year, which sort of explains it. Anyway, is there an easy way to get them apart? Using a screwdriver as a crowbar doesn't seem to be working...

Most cassettes don't come apart except for a few smallest cogs.

  • Yeah that explains it, thanks a lot! I'm glad I asked before doing some damage. I've only taken two cassettes off before and for both all the sprockets came apart
  • scrub the back of the cassette clean and you will see one of two things:

either small rivets holding the cassette together

    or

    2mmallen bolts holding it together.

The Allen bolts you undo with a normal Allen key, the rivets you can drill the heads off.

    then dismantle etc
