I have a full suspension GT with a rear lock out and it might be a stupid question but, can locking it whilst riding do it any harm? Should I be off the bike when I'm switching from locked to unlocked?

No, it's fine, while point is to be able to lock when riding
  • I do it all the time. Literally every single ride. I always fully lockup the front AND back when climbing. I unlock when descending of course but I admit I sometimes forget. It wont hurt anything. I don't recommend hitting some huge drops locked out but for standard riding it's fine.

Not a problem, although some setups don't fully lock out on the rear. Most front forks do if lockable, my Anthem rear suspension just stiffen's up rather than locks out.
Yeah same here, there's abit of travel still when Lockedout on the rear shock
  • That's how it's designed to be used.
