Bent Hanger?

Hi All.

Bike has recently decided it will not select the highest gear anymore. Highest gear starts in gear 2 and then selector will click through 10 gears up to the top gear and will want to click again into the spokes for 11.

The issue is not with the high and low limit as I first thought as I have reset both accurately (although 1st gear can be selected with the cable not attached). With the cable attached and the bike in gear 2 (but clicked to gear 1) It will not drop down no matter how much I wind the limit screws in or out.

Could a bent hanger cause this?

I think you are confusing high and low.
Low gear is the biggest sprocket. High gear is the smallest sprocket.

Are you actually saying it won't go in to the lowest gear?

Yes a bent hanger could cause it.

    Is it bent?

    Not a Canyon is it?

Yeah I have written it the wrong way, won't go into the highest gear.

    Edited original thanks.

It's not. Looking at the hanger from the back I can actually start to see the lower surface before the upper surface so i guess it is bent/twisted

Sounds like the cable is too tight, if it will go into the highest gear without the cable on and not with, what else would it be, especially as you say it tries to take another click and put the mech into the spokes.
