Brooks Proofide - fingers or cloth?

If you own a Brooks saddle and Proofide it, do you use your fingers or a cloth to apply the Proofide paste before buffing it?

    Not sure about Brookes saddles but I have heard that coconut oil is good for buffing your helmet.
