    Speak to car insurer see if they'd pursue recovery from manufacturer under product liability opposed to under AD section of car. If not household insurance may when dealing with cost of bike... depending on your statements and the facts in question....

    Vehicle insurance will not even attempt to recover based on the details of this case.
    Costs of even trying to peruse would be prohibitive and to be frank a non starter based on the number of possible failures to observe correct procedure when installing the rack, as i previously mentioned emphasis would be placed on those making the claim to prove fault. The only hope you would have relates to a recall by manufacturer of rack due to a known issue or several people suffering the same showing a clear failure of product to be "fit for purpose".
    As i have spent the last 17 years in vehicle insurance making these decisions i can advise you it's going nowhere.
