Tiagra 8 speed cassette to 11 speed hub?

Know that a 9 speed cassette can be fitted to an 11 speed hub but can an 8 speed?
Replacing the old wheels on my old Genesis Day01 and thought it had a 9 speed cassette but is actually 8 - can i simply space the cassette even further?

    Yeah, you use the same spacer whether you are fitting 10/9/8 speed cassette to an 11 speed hub.

    The 9 speed and 10 speed cassettes were designed to go on the same size freehub as 8 speed cassettes. It's only for 11 speed that they've had to widen the freehub.
