Hi, I've recently picked up an old Giant X1200 that has a seatpost that seems to like to slip around no matter how much i tighten the QR. Any thoughts?

    Wrong diameter seat post?

Have you got an X1200 (hybrid) or ATX1200 (MTB)?

Carbon assembly paste, little bits of grit in the paste which stops post slipping.
  • As above suggestions but also first ensure that surfaces are clean

X1200 hybrid. There's also a plastic part that narrows the tube, so yes it could be that I just need to spend more than the £10 I paid for the bike and replace the post

So a plastic shim has been added to use a non original size seatpost, carbon gripper paste is pretty much a must then. Also it's possible the shim is too thin so not the correct adaption for the wrong sized post being used for the frame!
