Afternoon

I am looking for a new front tyre for my Trek XCal 9. Currently I have the Bontrager XR2 29x2.2 that came as standard. They are fairly new but are not inspiring me with much confidence on the trails so I’m looking for something more grippy. I have narrowed it down to the below 3 which are all 2.25 wide. I’m wondering whether I should try to squeeze a 2.3 or 2.35 on, or can you recommend one of the below?

Schwalbe Nobby Nic SnakeSkin TubeLess Easy PaceStar Evo Folding 29er Off Road MTB Tyre

Maxxis Ardent Folding MTB Mountain Bike 29er Tyre

WTB Trail Boss TCS Light Fast Rolling 29er Tyre

Thanks a lot
Ash

Bontrager Team Issue XR3 or 4.

  • It really depends on the types of trail and surfaces that you are riding

Have you also tried varying the pressure of your existing tyres to see if that gives you any improvement

I think I over looked that tyre, I will take a look now.

I have been riding a lot at Swinley Forest which has a mixture. It's the fast flowing dry dirt where I feel it could work better.

I have not to be honest. Would you suggest letting a little air out?

What pressure are you running the tyres at for trail riding?

An additional comment on the pressure setting. I was running a set of decent Maxxis tyres that look grippy as hell, but I didn't feel that they were giving me the traction I thought they should.

Played with the tyre pressure and got to a point that suited my weight and riding style which was a little less than most recommend and since they've been much better.

My advice have a play with the pressure setting and see how you get on before buying new tyres!

But... I ride Swinley frequently with a Hans Dampf up front, massively over tired but great for confidence and a racing ralph behind, Sweet!
