Hi All,
I have a bike with Shimano Ultegra6870 36/52 Crankset and 11/28 cassette. Maybe in the future I may change the cassette to a 11/30 insread of a 11/32 and maybe change the front Crankset to a 34/50. Can I use the 8000 parts instead of the 6800 ? Are any of the new DI2 parts from the 8000, like juntion boxes, cables, battery, front derailuer and rear derailuer compatible with my older 6870 system. You may say why as the new 8000 will be more expensive, but when I my need the parts in a hurry, the 6870 stuff may not be in stock.

As far as I know, everything from 8000 is cross-compatible with 6870. You may not be able to use an 11-32 cassette, depending on your rear derailleur, and some of the new Di2 functions like syncho-shift require the 8000-series FD, RD and battery, but otherwise you should have no issues. Certainly the 9150 RD I just ordered to replace my damaged 9070 RD works perfectly in my otherwise 9070 system.
