A cycling shoes mystery

Hi All,

Have inherited a pair of DMT cycling shoes from a family member (avid cycling enthusiast) and would love to incorporate them into my set up now I have decided to take road cycling on. The only issue is that the shoes have a 5 hole pattern (two parallel and one in middle slightly below the first set) with the spacing too close together to fit shimano or keo cleats. I have taken it to all local bike shops and it has stumped them all so I am throwing it out to the infinite knowledge of bikeradar forum. The shoes themselves are not vintage or anything like that - happy to forward photos!

Put up a pic using a photo hosting site ?

What cleats did your relative have ?

Personally I'd probably be buying new shoes that i know fit me comfortably rather than reusing old ones that might. They aren't that expensive.
  • Hi Felix,
My family friend is no longer with us and I do not know the cleats he had, that's why I'm having such issues. I'd like to wear these shoes for sentimental reasons.

Please see below for a link to a pic:

  • Ignoring the two holes nearest the toe, it looks like TIME RXS/RXE cleats may fit?

No idea about the holes nearest the toe - but the one in the middle and the two rearmost seem to be Look stylee.

The nut inside should be able to slide up and down along the length of the shoe - would that then match a Look plate ?

Look have been around for the past 30 years and more so there's no way those shoes pre-date that.
  • It's a Speedplay specific shoe...I have the same ones.

    they're for speedplay cleats
my bike - faster than god's and twice as shiny
  • Thanks guys!

Will order some speedplay pedals now!
  • I wouldn't go out buying pedals because of "free" shoes. Speedplay would be a good choice, just keep in mind all cleat styles have pros and cons.

Speedplay being if you ever find yourself having to walk through soft ground, mud, or soil........those shoes/cleats will get full of junk keeping you from getting it into the pedals.

While the traditional styles still can have this happen, isn't as much an issue.

    Up to you though.

I'd get the rubber protector that goes over your cleat.

Helps with walking on it. Not sold by speedplay though.

Yes they are, they are called Coffee Shop Cleat Covers or for a bit extra you can buy the aero walkable cleats.

If you look on eBay there's a walkable cover a bit like the aero one (I think that's fairly new for speedplay) but this one is 5.29.

Not as pretty but great for coffee stops. You keep them on all the time.
