OK - I had seriously underestimated just how much of a difference getting a new bike would make!

Going from my old hybrid to my Cannondale CAADX is absolutely amazing. I'm going 10-15% faster - with what feels like less effort than before. All of a sudden I'm getting new PRs on Strava again without doing anything different.

Plus, where previously it sometimes felt as if I was dragging the bike along, put some pressure on the pedals on this one and she feels like she's going to race off without me.:lol::lol: It's like trying to keep a thoroughbred horse in check, as opposed to riding an old cob!

So much fun being had. :D:D

...and no I haven't been back on the hybrid since - even in the rain. I will put the winter studded tyres on the old girl though - for those snowy commutes!

  • All about those marginal gains from having brand components, instead of ones that have been bedded in.;)

I've still got some PBs from my Cube's first ~10-mile ride on May 4th that I've not come anywhere close to beating and often think how the heck did I do that time, despite for example riding http://www.strava.com/segments/1490295 pretty (and mini segments of that stretch) frequently.

Maybe I had a nice tailwind from the north? Which happens to be the wind direction today, but it's raining, my Cube might melt!

    Well, well, well.;)

It's mainly the position you have on the drop bar bike vs the hyrbrids more upright position. Good to have the benefit anyway.

Buy an Aero bike next. 10% gain!

Yes I think this is a major factor. I'm surprised that I'm finding the changed position to be nice and comfortable - I was a bit concerned it would be a difficult transition!
