WTF?! Great Grandma bought Shorty a tablet for her 5th Birthday. Not my choice.
There's no instructions with it.
We managed to put the Wifi code in and parental controls on but after that... nada.

Is it exclusively by a subscription fee or can you get free stuff on it?

It's Just like most other tablets. There's an app store to download apps and a browser for you to play on the web.

I like mine. BBC iPlayer and radio and my kindle account, BBC news, radio player, hive, my5, 4od etc etc.

So it's a 'pay per view' thing? Or at least, you pay for the App? Is that a one off payment?

Oh okay. So how do you get them? It directs us to the App store.

We're rank amateurs. Not even 4th Cat.

Ok so type in BBC into it and hit GET.
It downloads and the it's on the home page or you just hit open.

    Same with the others.

We found 'silk' web browser. If I wanted to put a cbeebies game on to it, what do we do?
Still don't know where this GET function is.

Can you see the app store ?

    Open that.

    Search there.

    Download the relevant app.

    There you go.

Have you not got a five year old to ask ? They blitz stiff like this.

If we click on the app store, when we click on it, it says 'apps library'. There's little on that screen to go by. It's blank bar:

    Apps............App updates.........Subscriptions.

    Lost.

Apps Library will probably be a list of apps you've installed, hence nothing.
Have a look at this guide to get started with Amazon apps
    https://www.technipages.com/download-in ... mazon-fire

And this if you want Google apps

Edit: You'll probably need a Google account to log into to get any apps from the Play Store

Isn't there a search button on the app store ? A picture of a magnifying glass ?

Excellent links and yes, thankfully I have a Google account. Thanks Andy and Cougie.

It was hard to get our head around using Apps to obtain anything seen as neither of us have a smart phone (though we do have 2 lap tops). I downloaded the google service apps and it all fell into place. Even the Cbeebies games was through the Google App.

Nice one. And no smart phones - how do you survive in the 21st century ?? ;-)

When I were a lad, we had bongo drums and we were all happy, all 27 of us livin' int' shoe box int' middle o' road.

Seriously, I haven't got time at work to read emails and surf the net. I don't want to either. My lap top does all I need to do and I have a cheap but solid old Nokia that if it falls out of my pocket, or I loose it, I don't have kittens as my life disappears in front of me.

Do you guys run an anti-virus on your 7? I can't put my remaining Norton license on it. Not supported.

    I've never bothered with antivirus.
