Does anyone have an Arkose 4 2017 model?

I've long been on the hunt for a good commuter bike with hydraulic discs, threaded bb, pannier mounts, wide tyres with full mudguard mounts etc etc. It seems to tick all of the boxes so I'm keeping an eye on prices and It's recently dropped 10% to £1,300.

Reviews seem to be really thin on the ground though. Does anyone here have one? Any opinions or advice would be much appreciated.

I don't personally have one, but the guys over on the bearbones bikepacking forum rate the Arkose highly.

If I was buying one I'd go for the Ltd edition version. But probably a bit too good for a commuter.
  • 105 gearing and RS585 hydraulics sound nice on the Arkose 4 for £1300, but if it was me for commuting, I would seriously think about saving £400 by buying the Arkose X 2017 instead.

It's "only" 1x10 gearing on a bar end shifter, but the Hylex hydraulics are considered pretty decent.

If you fit a small Arkose frame, the Arkose Singlespeed is far better priced now at £765 in the sale, but it still has a few deficiencies compared to the Arkose X (eg. wheels are not tubeless ready). http://www.evanscycles.com/pinnacle-ark ... e-EV244116

Cheers for the replies. I was tempted by the Ltd edition but it's more than I want to spend. I am pretty set on the Arkose 4 for now but would be interested to hear from anyone that owns one.
  • If you're still not decided I use one as my commuter bike in London and love it. It has some quality components and keeps pace with the fast road bikes, while offering the practicality of loading up the panniers and going on a long semi-off-road tour of the countyside. It is a little pricey if all you want is a commuter but if you're looking for a bit more versitility then I can recommend it. I left a review and photos on the Evans Cycles site - 'An exceptional all-rounder': https://www.evanscycles.com/pinnacle-ar ... e-EV275625
  • Sounds like you are looking for a similar bike to me at a similar price point - you might want to take a look at the Whyte Glencoe thread I started the other day, there have been lots of helpful forumites posting good alternative bikes.

In particular you may want to look at the Sonder Camino which meets all your requirements and is available In a Shimano 105 2x build for £1k, and there are SRAM 1x builds available too.
