Perhaps I'm wanting too much but here goes;

Not DWR coated
Lightweight
Packs up nice and small (for back pocket stowage)
Not sweat inducing

Moon on a stick?

EDIT:
unless of course you're all rather busy, and if you are i totally understand. in fact let's just forget this whole bothersome charade.

once again i'm very sorry

If cost isn't an issue, I can thoroughly recommend the one made of Gore One fabric that, I think, Castelli do amongst others. Far from cheap. I have the original Gore version and it works the best of any of these I've ever tried.

AGU Secco Condom. I've had a few and this has been the best. Not too pricey.

    Erm, ok?

Maybe we have different ideas of how forums work?

You know, people have experiences of products and then share said experiences with a wider community... No?

I've got this one. Very light, has vents for ventilation, and packs small....or at least small enough to fit into my back pocket. The downside is that it doesn't have any pockets, and I'm not even sure if it's available anymore.

ok, i'm a fairly new poster on here, but i've used many an other forum and that kind of OP is just taken at face value, not a command... sorry if it offends

Also the Gore One jacket. Proper Goretex tech.. so it is pricey... however, in summer, temps 18+, probably best just to get wet and dry out on the go.
Probably ideal though for high Alpine descending.
I t is race cut that means tight.. no irritating flappy wackiness.
Also it aint hi viz Yeay. Use ya eyes to see me, moton.
  • Waterproof jackets are something I've always had trouble with, I've had several and they're either "boil in the bag" or just not waterproof. I have just bought one of these https://www.endurasport.com/product/fs260-pro-adrenaline-race-cape/. It had it's first outing yesterday, heavy showers and quite a cool day for August. I had it on during the heavy shower part of the ride, but took it off around midday when the sun came out a little bit. It fits nicely in my saddle bag when in its pack. So far I think it's the best one I've tried for warmer weather. The only problem is I bought white and although it's quite visible, I only have to look at it and it's picked up a dirty mark.

DHB make one which packs into a rear pocket, has been waterproof so far and does not make you feel boil in the bag. Absolutely no complaints although I have only used it in 1 to 2 hour rides with moderate rainfall.

Sorry, meant to say also that price wise it doesn't break the bank.

I hardly ever wear one. I find that unless it's absolutely hammering it down I get just as wet through condensation, even if it's meant to be breathable. Therefor I look for one that's both light weight and cheap.
  • Happy with my Endura FS260 - it's certainly better and more breathable than the Goretex jackets I've used in the past.

The new Gore fabric looks very interesting, but (1) it's very expensive, (2) I'm not sure about its durability, and (3) I refuse to wear anything black.

The durability issue should be covered by the lifetime warranty. Agree that black isn't ideal but I tend to run with bright daylight lights. The price is high but it does work very well when you need it. I was bought it as a gift. It certainly isn't going to meet everyone's requirements but I'm happy to ride in any weather and actually don't mind getting wet - the issue comes though with an enforced stop when your temperature drops very quickly if you're soaked through.

Yeah, these pick up colours from anything. Washed mine with Mrs. Alex99s yellow nylon number and it went lemon yellow + grey from dirt.

The Gore One, has in principle has a VERY DWR finish, since the outer face is teflon. If you want to avoid a conventional DWR, this is pretty much your only choice. Apart from a Paramo, but then they are quite warm and don't fit in a pocket.

They are all sweat inducing, because they block the wind and add a lot of warmth to whatever you're already wearing. If you're sweating hard, nothing will effectively keep up. The only realistic aim is, not to get cold.

I'm happy enough with my Goretex Paclite shell for when I expect it to properly rain when I'm out. It's a MTB cut, so not skin tight; I think that helps it cope with perspiration. In cooler weather when I take it off I can see condensation on the inside of the taped seams, which tells me the rest of the fabric has been shifting a lot of water. Nothing ever leaks in.

If it's only light rain I still prefer a softshell with a windstopper front and breathable back; it does get wet, but I stay warm, and it dries quickly.

If it's piddling down before I go I generally chicken out and don't bother.

I certainly wouldn't recommend you to any of my jackets.
  • Why do you want one without DWR? It makes the water bead up on the outside and run off, improving breathability and makes the waterproof membrane work at its optimum for transpiration.

because it's life span is limited, and the glory of the beading soon disappears.

i know you're supposed to be able to reapply nickwax etc but despite following the instructions to the letter i've had zero success...

Very much this. You are as well to buy cheap and throw away after 3 washes. Or, look for a good non-DWR. I'm at the cheap stage after giving up wasting money on "good" jackets.
The above may be fact, or fiction, I may be serious, I may be jesting.
I am not sure. You have no chance.

The £220 Gore GTX Active jacket is the best on the market, period.

With BC discount, you can get it for under £170 on CRC.
