Carbon Dropout Imperfection?

Hello,

I've been searching through forums to see if I could find a carbon dropout that reseambles mine, but I have not been successful. This is my first experience with a "nude" carbon dropout without any type of alloy plate. I've had the bike for a couple of months, but I just noticed the imperfection or uneven dropout surface while checking the dropouts for wear. It almost appears as if the carbon is slightly shaved on one side of the face. My question is, do you guys think that it is a safety issue worthy of a new fork, or is it just a nuisance? Thanks.

Can't see it's an issue at all. You'd need good eyes to spot anything.

Personally I'd forget about it. Unless it was cracked it wouldn't cause a problem.

  • A carbon dropout is very strong. It's solid carbon, unlike the tubes that make up the majority of the frame. There's no broken or exposed fibres there and as far as I can see it looks like you're shaving off the paint more than anything else. Just make sure you've got the skewers lined up properly and clamped down tightly - carbon dropouts can take a REALLY tight skewer.

    looks fine

may as well wipe/inspect whenever the wheel is taken off, but as above they are very tough
my bike - faster than god's and twice as shiny
  • Thanks all for the responses. I didn't think it was an issue, but it never hurts to get another's opinion.
