Landa has to be a fairly hot favourite looking at that startlist. Lopez and Soler to round out the podium.

  • Got to be thankful for these Spanish stage races - they seem to glue the season and I know often difficult to keep financing?
  • Well, the good news is that Matt Rendell isn't commentating.
Last year he had to solo and it's not his forte.
Instead we have, fresh from the tour, Ned Boulting and Brian Smith.

  • Landa wins!.
    Nasty little final km climb.
    Chernetski 2nd.
Alaphillipe shows up late to grab 3rd.
    Quite a few small gaps.

Well my prediction of Soler on the podium was hopelessly wrong (12 minutes down). Movistar riding for others it seems.

So, the riders but the used batteries from their motors in that recycling bin?

Is...that...a bit of tatty green carpet on top of a car park?
  • Ned Boulting was very taken with the podium back drop, I'll have you lot know.
Also a pretty big crowd has some splendid terracing from which to view the tatty bit of carpet host the ceremony.

If ever you wanted a photo to sum up the state of the Spanish economy, that's it.

    Nice colour leader's jersey though
It's only a bit of sport, Mun. Relax and enjoy the racing.
  • Enjoyed that first stage. The podium is a mess but could have been so much nicer up on that rooftop.

Made me want to visit Burgos.

Maybe Movistar are planning more on Moreno? While Alaphilippe is already clearly aiming for the points jersey?
Of overall GC, Fraile also out of the running and (very surprisingly) Sepulveda too – one would perhaps have expected him to show his worth following his transfer.
  • Matteo Trentin mugs Adam Blythe to take the stage win.
Prime echelon country today, but it was just hot, hot, hot.

Podium-normal has been deployed, though the handy dead battery re-cycle bin is still able to make an appearance

Ta, don't have access to that channel sadly, and thought there might be dual broadcasters, like ride London on BBC and Eurosport, and the Tour on Itv 4 and Eurosport.
I'll have to find another way clearly!

Why can't we get the bike channel in HD, I hate watching anything but particularly cycling in this blurred mess!

Blimey. Landa really beasted that finish!

I know what you mean, but the coverage we get these days was beyond the dreams of even the most optimistic of cycling fans a few years ago!
  • Landa deals fairly easily with the dual Quick Step threat, who did try to work him over.
So, de la Cruz 2nd, Mas 3rd, Jaime Ronson 4th, Mig Lopez 5th.
Igor Anton wins the Haimar Zubeldia award for appearing from nowhere for 6th.

Movistar absolutely nowhere. The teams mojo seems to have disappeared with Valverde.

You wonder if that's why they have him at the big races where Quintana is also racing.

Not so much as a foil to Quintana but more as a figurehead for the team.

He would be a much better guy to ride for and seems really popular in the peloton. Quintana is hardly William Wallace
It's a little like wrestling a gorilla. You don't quit when you're tired. You quit when the gorilla is tired.
  • Kinda stamping his authority over this race isn`t he.?

Just think he's a good bloke.
  • A few kph of wind and we would have an echelon alert by now.
