Is it any worse as a race than something like Paris-Tours or even Flèche Wallone that has the same predictable finish every year? It possibly suffered by becoming a WT event as they get more controlled but there have been some decent finishes in the past.0

No, no worse0 -
Assuming it has to finish in central London, they should rotate the rest of the route through other areas surrounding London.
Obviously I'm biased, given it's where I do a lot of my riding, but Kent would make for much better racing than Surrey imo. All sorts of of nastiness you could incorporate within striking distance of the M25, plus the run-in through SE London could be made a good degree more testing than the current virtual pan-flat dash from Leatherhead.0 -
Dont they want it pan flat though so Cav can win on the Mall ?
Also prob something to do with the Ride London route too. If that's too demanding they'd not be able to run it on the same day.0 -
London to Brighton would be much more fun - real possibility of ditching people at ditchling and then a mad Bardet-special down to the line on the coast. And last time I looked Kwiatek had the KOM on the beacon and any race that he might win tends to be exciting0

Wasn't the old Wincanton Classic held on a course around Brighton that included Ditchling? I can't recall that being a great race either. Personally I think last weekend was well balanced with San Sebastián for the climbers on Saturday and Surrey on Sunday for the sprinters. Unfortunately though a week after the end of the Tour isn't a great time to get everyone there on good form.0 -

And expect southern rail to be able to cope?
Good one.0 -
I stand by my view!!
Although I was eventually won over by the Tour de Yorks.
Not sure this will do that for me though, however much BR tells me its a decent bike race.0 -
Bet he's gutted... I'm sure he would rather bag that than win Paris-Roubaix

Fairly sure Phil Gil did a sub 4:30 on the final ascent in the olympics, but he didn't stick it on strava .0 -
