DHB. Excellent value and very good too. Also have a look at stuff like Santini or Lusso.

Depends on your bank, what type of budget?

Depends on budget and what build you are.
  • I am pretty keen to try the Howies bibs @£59 but DHB would be a good choice also.

So still being none the wiser, I am going to go with my own 'break the bank' amount, and that would be around £100.

    These are currently available:
    https://www.lapassione.cc/products/summer-bib-shorts-square?variant=1211260321

For £93, but SQUARE25 (Currently, but I don't know for how long) knocks 25% off them, taking them to less than £70 a pair.

Free postage and returns is only as such if you spend over £100 though, so if I was going that route, I would get two pairs.

They are an extremely good pair of shorts, slightly more comfy than my Rapha lightweight shorts, and I bought two backup pairs as well which shows you how much I like them.

  • Rivelo Honister on sportpursuit under £50. Very comfy, help keep me at a decent temp through a wide range of weathers (paired with arm/leg warmers when necessary). Decals have started flaking after about a year of weekly use, but that doesn't bother me.

Just got some of the DHB asv black ones. they are frankly great. Fit better than my assos ones and are more comfy. they are cheaper than my Ale ones as well. £60 for a properly good set of bibs is good value.

I've got both Howies and the DHB. They're both great for the money but I find the Howies just a shade more comfortable. Would always choose them for a longer ride

I don't think you will go wrong with the DHB though

+1 DHB. Just match the shorts to your budget. I have the cheaper ones for commutes and the ASV ones for races/long rides and they're all great. Also, the longest serving pair of shorts I have is a £30 pair of DHB from 4-5 years ago and they're only just starting to get uncomfortable from pad wear, but they don't owe me anything as I've ridden them a lot!

Got to agree with this - I have two pairs of the standard summer (not lightweight) shorts, and they are very good over long distances -the pad is excellent. They do come up quite long on me, but then I'm a shortarse anyway. I might get another pair with that discount for next year.

Another vote for the LP, they're excellent and feel premium quality. The best 'other' bibs I have to compare them to are DHB Aeron Pro, which were decent at first but noticeably stretched on the straps, and a big hole wore in the leg inside 1500 miles. (I'm ~70kg so hardly a big unit rubbing them on the saddle).

I'm a big fan or either the DHB Aeron or DHB ASV.
Got a couple of pairs of both and they are great.

    DHB

These are the sweet spot for me. Best shorts I have had. Comfortable, Wash well, look good and relatively cheap. The Castelli Free Aero are good but not worth the extra ££ imo.

    DHB are decent
Rivelo Honister are £50 on sport pursuit and they're fine but I haven't ridden a century in them.
The Rivelo Beaumont shorts are £35 but I haven't tried these.

Sports Pursuit have Rivelo Honister bib shorts back on sale at £49.99 reduced from £120 - I got a pair a few months ago and think they're very good indeed (I also have a few Castelli and Sportful bibs, and the Rivelos compare very well indeed, but cheaper :D )

If you can stretch to 69.99 you can get a matching bib short / jersey set in a rather fetching teal...

Other colours available for 79.99 it seems

Ive always been impressed with Funkier kit - so thought I would give their gel bib shorts a whirl @ £45 - gotta say I am really impressed

As an Aside I was reading somewhere that the decath bibs for around £50 - are the actual ones worn by some pro teams.
