Has anyone got any experience of this company??

I'm heading over to Majorca next week and for the sake of 20 euros it seems like a good idea for piece of mind. I'm hiring a bike and hoping to get about 150 miles in while i'm there

How often do you need to be rescued ? I can only think of a handful of times over the decades. I'd risk it.

In the decade I have been riding I have only needed to be picked up once. I think I would risk it too :)

Thinking about it, I have only had to be picked up once and that was whilst abroad and it cost me 40 euros in a taxi so 20 euros for the cover doesn't seem too bad

Seems rubbish to me. They drop you off at home or the nearest bike shop, whichever is closer, so once they've dropped you off at some godforsaken bike shop in the middle of nowhere their job is done.

judging by the reaction when i dared suggest people venture out without a gps, it got lost :)

Yeah, we tend to find comfort in being safe and secure with technology and all sorts of insurances, but then we get bored and we want to do stupidly dangerous things to make up for the lack of adventure in every day life. bit silly, innit?

Doesn't help the OP of course. Paying 20 pounds to avoid paying 40 in the remote event of you being stranded seems a bit silly... just get a couple of phone numbers of local taxi companies, if that makes you feel safer. As a more general remark, most of these "adventures" make our life richer rather than not.

A friend of mine got stranded on the M6 in Staffordshire and retrospectively he was glad he did, 'cause it gave him the opportunity to visit the old potteries in Stoke, while they were mending his car

not far if your sense of adventure is Paying £40 for a taxi if you breakdown rather than paying £20 for insurance .... or visiting potteries when you car brakes down

Chances of breaking down and not being able to limp home seem fairly low, why not just take a taxi number with you and call one if it happens?

There are lots of cyclists over there.Look helpless if the worst happens.

Depending on who you hire from you'll probably find they will help you out if you call them, I know the last two I've hired from do and seen other vans out and about. The bikes tend to be pretty decent so with you planned mileage I suspect you'll be fine, just stick you multi tool in you luggage.

We were there in May and according to some friends who go there nearly every month this service is aimed at people taking their own bike.Hire companies will come and get you.
There were literally 1000s of cyclists there(there always is) and we didn't see the rescue van once(that's not to say it didn't rescue anyone).
We were prewarned that it isn't just a case of phoning a taxi as they have rules on where each firm can operate so it might involve three or four companies to get you from one end of the Island to the other and cost €100+.
I took this with a pinch of salt as the taxi from the airport took us right across the Island to Pollenca

It is a load of bollocks indeed, I am Spanish and taxis in Spain work like a London taxi (or hackney). I remember when I used to work for RACE (Spanish AA) I had to book a taxi for someone to go from Cadiz to La Coruña for onward travel and the bill came up to €400 or thereabouts.

I pay £18 a year to ETA, that gives me 'breakdown' cover in all of Europe. They essentially send a taxi to your location if you have a mechanical and will take you up to 25 miles, given that most of my rides in France are about 80 miles and the radius is usually no more than 25 miles or so, it's perfect.

Thanks for the replies, some really good info in the last few. It is a hire bike from Sport Becqui who seemed pretty decent last time I was out there so I think i will probably risk it. Will look into that ETA cover though as that could be useful

What a waste of 20 Euros.

Take enough to repair punctures and a mini-tool. That's enough to fix minor stuff.

If you have hired and something more significant happens then call the hire company as it's more likely to be a bike issue than a user issue.
