Canyon or Planet X

Hello,

I'm currently looking to upgrade from my Btwin Triban 3 road bike and I'm considering two options. First option is to buy a Canyon Ultimate CF SL 7.0. Second option is to buy a planet X RT-80 frame and custom build around that. They are roughly the same weight but the canyon is £260 more expensive. I could really use some other opinions on whether I should get the Canyon or the Planet X? Any advice will be greatly appreciated. Also if you can think of any other good bikes around £1400 to compete with these bikes please let me know.

Below are the parts I'm going to use for the custom build Planet X Bike:

If you are happy to be patient with Canyon (lots of posts on hear about them) but could you stretch to this https://www.canyon.com/en-gb/road/ultimate/ultimate-cf-sl-9-0.html currently on sale at ) £1,499.

Much better wheelset than the 7 or your suggested ones and it's ultegra too...

If you are happy to go for Planet X, then you should also consider a Dolan... the paint schemes are just as bad as Planet X, but the quality is better

The Dolan Tuono is a mean machine

Get this, get it now. It'll be miles better than anything from PX at that price range. I've owned the same model for over 3 years, it's a great bike at £1800, it's mega at £1499.

That Canyon is an amazing bike, light, aero touches, great spec.
Completely different league of bike from Planet X.

Glad I had a look here today. Currently in the market for an upgrade from my Planet X pro carbon, the Canyon 9.0 is a great bike at that price.

Currently own an Ultimate CF, but I preferred my Planet X. The headtube is too tall on the Canyon, combined with the daft headset top cap that adds another 15mm. And due to the oversized steerer, I can't find a long/low enough stem to make it fit properly. Apart from that, it's a decent bike.

    What size are you riding?

I'm currently on the 44cm Pro Carbon (I could have went for the medium though tbh), it's looking like the small Canyon would be the equivalent model for me.

6ft tall, 32 inside leg, in proportion and large fits me like a glove.

Canyon hands down. I just bought a new bike from them and it arrived in less than a week, from Germany to Britain

    What is the relevance?
I'm sorry you don't believe in miracles

The RT-80 uses "EPS inside" doesn't it ? .... if that's the case and the Canyon doesn't .. I would go with the Canyon purely due to a few posts on here discovering they cant re-cable "if" the foam inside breaks up

    I owned a Planet-X RT-58 and found it quite a harsh ride.
I bought a Canyon Ultimate CF SL frame-set and swapped all the bits off the RT on to it.Like night and day IMO.The Canyon frame feels much better.
Maybe I don't get on with Planet-X Carbon frames as i've ridden a Pro-Carbon,RT-58 and the EC-130 and they just feel harsh and vibey to me!
I've ridden an RT-58 allu and that was OK though!
