Caliper brake long or short
HI first time building up a road bike and I am a little confused about the right drop brakes to chose,
Measurement from hole in the fork crown to center of braking surface is 45mm I would like to run 28 c tires so should i order long drop 57mm or 49mm or something else?

the position of brake track and fork mount are fixed wrt to each other, tyre size makes no difference to the brake drop
typically you get 10-ish mm adjustment range, if the centre-centre distance is 45mm it'll be right for typical road calipers (39-49 range), not long drop
it'll be the fork clearance that determines whether there's room for 28mm tyre, and at the rear, things like seat tube, fd mounting if it's a clamp-on, and stay clearancemy bike - faster than god's and twice as shiny0 -
Regular drop - it's just about having long enough arms to get the brake pads on the right part of the rim - and that's dictated by the fork not by what tyre you want to use.I'm left handed, if that matters.0
