Purchase advice on garmin for strava upload
I'm trying to help a friend out on buying a garmin. She is wanting to just have basic riding information but the capability to upload her ride to strava when she gets home without plugging into a laptop etc, ideally Bluetooth on smartphone.
I'm thinking Garmin 25 or 510 based on what I've read. The 510 seems to certainly fit the bill but at quite a higher price. Will the 25 meet her needs, I keep picking up on some question marks over the ease of uploading to strava, can anyone with one of these give a simple advice on how user friendly they are.

How serious is she about riding?
Tried the good old phone + quadlock?0 -
I think it kills her iPhone battery using it as a device on the bike0

iPhone and bung it in the back pocket. You don't need the display on when you're riding. You know roughly how far you can ride in an hour. Accurate enough for guidance.0

The Garmin device connects via Bluetooth on the phone and uploads via Garmin Connect (on the phone) then that will sync with Strava - most of the time without fuss.
That's what my wife does with her 810 ... my 800 has to be connected - but both need to be connected to charge0 -
The 25 is a bit useless and quite temperamental. Mine tends to lose the connection to the phone a lot and require re-syncing before it will upload properly, Also, it's quite reliant on Garmin Express on the computer for software updates etc. It's also pretty limited if she ever does want more functionality - You can't connect a power meter (at the moment at least) and the mapping/navigation is awful.
I only used mine a few times before buying an Elemnt Bolt and chucking the 25 in a drawer. I'm keeping it around partly in case I ever want a very small and light computer, but mostly because I can't be bothered to sell it. This isn't against Garmins in general by the way. I have a Vivoactive watch which I use when I'm on my MTB and that's excellent for what I need it for.0 -
if you can find one go for garmin 200, basic, byt gives most info you need, on a decent size screen and easy to sync to strava0
