Dropout hanger fixing bolt missing

Is it relatively safe to commute without it until the new one arrives? As I see it the axle nuts hold the hanger in place. Now that I think about it I should've ordered a spare one as well.

    Maybe. There's lots of different styles of attaching the hanger - Some would be fine, others would be risky. What bike is it? A picture may help as well.

    Indeed, it depends on the style of hanger/bolt(s) you have really, some are held very well in place by the axle nut/QR, others are not.
    Currently riding a Whyte T130C, X0 drivetrain, Magura Trail brakes converted to mixed wheel size (homebuilt wheels) with 140mm Fox 34 Rhythm and RP23 suspension. 12.2Kg.

    Mine was held well in place after all.
