Different hubs for different forks?

Hi, I'm sorry if this question sounds stupid, but I'm new to this (or I should say I'm new to these new mountain bikes - my last one was a GT Timberline in the early 90's). My son has got a newish bike and we've had to change the forks, but the wheel won't go back on? Do I need to get a new wheel or can t be adapted?

Forks are quick release, wheel is a through axle. You might be able to get adaptors, depends on the hub. Can't see what it is from the picture.

Thanks, thought there was something up. I'm just going to buy a quick-release wheel on ebay for £20.
