I've been on the lookout for a used VooDoo Marasa since it seems to get a lot of recommendations around here. However, I actually prefer the looks of the 2013/14 model compared to the current one, so I wondered if the differences in spec were significant enough that getting the older model would be a poor choice?

The main differences I can see are (old vs current):

Weight: 13.7kg vs 12.7kg
Chainset: Shimano Altus vs Suntour XCM
Shifters: Shimano Acera vs Shimano Altus
Rear Mech: Shimano Acera vs Shimano Altus
Brakes: Tektro HDC-300 vs Tektro M290
Gears: 24 vs 27

Not sure how accurate the weight values are, but my commute is a 3 mile towpath, so a 1kg difference and 3 fewer gears shouldn't be too much of an issue.

From what I've read, Altus is a step down from Acera in the Shimano hierarchy. No idea how the brake models compare. No idea how the Suntour chainset compares to the Shimano.

What would you pick if the prices were the same and you preferred the older paint job? :D
