Came off my bike yesterday at the ford on the Tak descent, arrived braking at about 15mph and wham over I went hitting the whole of my left side from head to ankle. Helmet has two big cracks in it. Luckily a car stopped a minute later to assist and ended up in a/e. cat scan on head was ok but have a broken collarbone so up in a sling for 6 weeks now. Head and hip have big swellings. Looked to me like some moss/slime had formed in the water, didn't think I hit it any faster than on previous descents. Be careful there please!

It's a classic climb, good account of it here:

Thanks very much to the guys who stopped and drove me to the train station.

Too late now but, ford = walking pace.
The above may be fact, or fiction, I may be serious, I may be jesting.
I am not sure. You have no chance.

    Sorry to hear!

For future reference you can avoid crossing the ford on the Tak if you go off the road a couple of metres and onto the gravel path at the side, sometimes hidden by vegetation though.

I'll be giving it considerably more respect if and when I return!

bike appeared ok, fall was to left so no knocks to gears. the police are looking after it for me - they laughed when I whisked the computer off it first though ("don't you trust us then?").

Hey just read your post. Hope you're on the mend. I almost did the same thing a few days ago. First time riding the tak ma doon. I didn't realise there was a ford at the bottom and hit it at full speed. No idea how I stayed up. Very lucky man. Good luck with getting back on your bike.
