Giro Rosa Catch Up
It is Gira Rosa week in Italy, it always tends to get overshadowed by the TdF. Due to the shorter summer school holidays I'm not on holiday in Italy this week so have had less time to follow the race, at least live on RAI or in person. A quick recap:-
Stage 5 (Today 4 July) is an ITT, a chance for Longo-Borghini to take back seconds on Van der Breggen?
The 10 stage race has few difficult cols and no mountain top finishes. It will favour bigger, powerful riders rather than pure mountain climbers. I saw Longo-Borghini has been training over routes very similar to the stages this year so she obviously hopes to convert last year's Blue jersey into Pink.
There was a great final spring yesterday (Stage 4) won by Jolien D'hoore of the Wiggles.
Anna Van der Breggen (Boels – Dolmans) keeps the Pink Jersey.
GENERAL CLASSIFICATION AFTER STAGE 4:
1. ANNA VAN DER BREGGEN 8h36’25”
2. ELISA LONGO BORGHINI +26”
3. MEGAN GUARNIER +1’56”
...
18. Lizzie Deignan +4'15
24. Hannah Barnes +5'12
34. Dannie King +6'08
110. Nikki BRAMMEIER +15'00 https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nikki_Brammeier
137. Alice Cobb + 21'27 https://twitter.com/alicecobb3195?lang=fr
https://youtu.be/9ztB2qClads
Britain's own Hannah Barnes took stage 3 in another sprint

Stage 2. went to Annemiek Van Vleuten, obviously completely recovered from her terrible Olympics crash

The first stage was a TTT, won by Boels Dolman with Canadian rider Karol-Ann Canuel taking pink

Thanks for the catch-up. 20pct TT - that's pretty cruel and the time gaps bear it out.
Just a quick question - what is the official rationale for the stages being about 1/2 to 2/3 the length of the equivalent men's race (it seems this is pretty much across the board)?0 -

There's a pretty arbitrary max length on womens races that's far shorter than mens. UCI regulations.Warning No formatter is installed for the format0 -
No big changes yesterday: Gutierrez outsprints front group, Van der Breggen holds on to pink
On a hilly course between Isernia and Baronissi, the 7th stage of the Giro Rosa amounts to 142 hilly kilometres. A break of twelve riders holds on to the line with Sheyla Gutierrez sprinting to victory ahead of Soraya Paladin and Eugenia Bujak. Anna van der Breggen stays in pink
