I may do some light off roading such as over fields and gravel but theres not really any proper off roading to be done where I live.

So just wondered if theres even any point in a front suspension if im going ot be mainly on tarmac and pavement?

But I would like it to be a fairly comfortable ride

Id probably be choosing between these two:

    Not tempted witha cx bike?

I don't understand difference between a hybrid with suspension and a hardtail mtb?

*Actually i think its the fork travel & maybe geometry less slack?

Actually is a huge deference, not only in geometry and the fork, but also on the gears. On trekking bikes you get 48 teeth at the front making them really fast bikes.

Now for the op, i would chose the bordman if you plan to go on some off road too. Its by no means MTB but they are pretty capable there especially if you install Schwalbe land cruiser tires. I even did some trails with a trekking bik. (i used to have ghost panamao x4. ). If you dont plan to go very often off road maybe the pinacle is a better choice, and maybe you have to look for a gravel/cyclocross bike.

This Pinnacle Lithium is looking better now:

  • I would go for the Boardman because I had a boardman Hybrid without front suspension & it was hopeless off road took along the ridgeway once never again! road only not very good on gravel either! definately need front suspension if your considering any off road riding!

You've got so much choice around that price at the moment, Id also look at the Kona Big Rove if you find one in a sale < £550
or a Cannondale Contro 4 if you fancy something a bit more crazy around £600
I wouldn't bother with suspension either, just get something with a good pair of tyres already on.
There's also a few ex-dispay hybrids coming through, mainly at Evans but other retailers too, just got to be lucky if its your size. You can whizz through all the hybrids at your price point here
