Sunday Parking Laws

One thing that irks me more and more every time I ride on a Sunday is the lax nature of Sunday parking laws.

For six days our cycle lanes are clear of traffic, the pavements are there for humans to walk down and cars are safely stored in car parks and designated parking spots.

Then Sunday comes round and you go out the house and there’s cars parked absolutely everywhere, for free. Cars blocking bike lanes, cars on double yellows turning two lane roads to one, cars on pavements.

It’s mayhem. Who let this happen and why is nobody doing anything about it?

I’m not a parent yet, but if I was I’d imagine Sunday is the kind of day I’d like to take my child for a nice little bike ride down the road to the park or swimming pool, or to get an ice cream. Except I wouldn’t be able to do this safely due to the metal boxes strewn across the route.

Am I right?

unless there is a specific by-law you can park on a pavement, bike lanes with broken white lines are advisory only....

too many cars, too much usage and not enough road space, what is an essential has also become a curse.

Lax standard of driving on Sundays irks me more as a roadie...just remember outside of any conurbation the concept of cycling infrastructure is usually an exercise in wasted road marking paint.

Conclusion is that we need to deal with it?

Seems bloody stupid, particularly in the bits of London I come across the problem in.
