Finally, after all that nonsense of riding bicycles over cobbles in the spring and hipsterish better-than-the-Tour Giro claims, the one race that really means something is upon us. Yes, the annual slow bicycle race round France is here at last. For a full three weeks our heroic contenders will be attempting to avoid getting involved in the sharp end of the race and will be withholding the beans in time trials. They'll be finding cunning ways to sneak off the back of the peloton "just gotta go for a Dumoulin, back in a tick" and trying to circumvent their DS's instructions to get in the break and make it stick. In amongst the natural contenders will be those who strike it lucky in the sprint stages by striking the tarmac and getting a hurty or who manage to get caught behind someone else's pileup.
With a wet 14km TT to kick off the opening stage there's a good chance for someone to grab an early lead. The race won't be won today, but the early contenders will be showing their credentials.
Bring it on (slowly)!

Yeah, sorry. This would have won the Lanterne Rouge thread Lanterne Rouge by dint of arriving last, but the commissionaires appear to think it arrived after the cut-off and is therefore technically DNF. Bit like King Edward a few years ago.
Glad I'm not the only one to get hyper-excited by it though!0 -
Damn commissionaires. You'd think they'd be able to grant extenuating circumstances when I clearly told them that I left the dog that ate my homework on the bus....
I'm more than happy to let you run with the thread this year - your efforts last year were rated at 12/10. :-)Warning No formatter is installed for the format0
