Hi

I've just dusted off the hardtail after over a year out of commission - done a basic/quick service to get things going again and all seems fine apart from the forks. They feel a little hard and harsh. I set the air pressure and fiddled with the rebound but they are quite hard and harsh.

Any ideas on what's wrong please? Do they need a seals and a service?

Thanks

Chris

    named in the title.....

Clean off the stanchions and wipe with a bit of fork lube, invert the forks for a while to allow the lube to run up to the bushings and seal, it may help but really a lowers service with oil change is a good idea.

Oil, foam rings and maybe wiper seals.
Follow an on-line guide and you'll have it down in half an hour.

Should be a serial number etched onto them somewhere that you can use to trace the model, probably on the back of the fork crown.

Found a sticker on the back saying made in Taiwan!!

And a number 13T70017206 - is this the serial number? If so where can I cross reference?

Any RS 32mm seal kit will do. They're all the same.

Manuals are on the RS website. AFAIK it's just a little fork oil in each leg for lube. The damping is a cartridge so nothing you can do there.

Silvers have steel stanchions which are chromed and are a silver colour.
Gold models have aluminium stanchions which are anodised a yellowish (gold?) colour.

Not the most imaginative way to choose names......
