Question about Shimano BB 86/386 crankset

Hello everyone,
I currently have a road bike (BB86 pressfit) with a FSA 386 crank and would like to replace it with a Shimano Ultegra crank (172.5mm vs 170mm). Based on internet research, I see a lot of folks using BB adapters (e.g. Wheels Mfg), instead of buying Shimano BB86 Bottom Bracket. Why is that? Wouldn't it make more sense to by a new BB instead of an adapter? Often, the adapters are more costly than the Shimano BB. Is this b/c of cost? I assume the cost of a LBS replacing the BB shouldn't be more than $50?
Thanks!

BB86 is one of the better press fit standards - unless someone is determined to use an alternative/adaptor you shouldn't really need one if you are using a Shimano chainset.0

I don't really like those adaptors so I think it's a nicer solution to have a BB that takes your chainset without any additions.
Shouldn't cost too much to have it installed.I'm left handed, if that matters.0 -
Shimano BB86 BB is really good.English Cycles V3 | Cervelo P5 | Cervelo T4 | Trek Domane Koppenberg0
