SRAM SX4 rear mech assembly question

I'm in the process of connecting the cable to the mech and realised there is no thread for the barrel adjuster to screw in. Unless I require a special one? There's no manual or anything just a vague reference to their website, I tried to search for sram sx4 manual and found nothing. Not surprised really. The mech is supposedly ancient.

It has a "direct route technology" which means nothing to me. I suppose it has something to do with the cable going in straight into the mech.

Alright I believe I need a sram shifter as it seems they've decided to have barrel adjuster on the shifter. I should've thought about cross-compatibility before buying. Oh well.

X4 shifters are cheap anyway, just buy a shifter?

You need a SRAM shifte anyway as no other shifter is compatible with the SRAM pull ratio.

That said I've not seen an MTB shifter without a barrel adjuster anyway.
