What are the crew powering with their pedalling, I know it is the latest innovation, I have never known what the guys on the winches are powering.
They seem to put in a substantial amount of energy going somewhere?

It's powering all the hydraulics that adjust the angles of the sails etc. and supposedly allows quicker manoeuvring
