Ok so I have a FS frame that needs putting back together, but it's going to take a fair bit of delicate work to put back together, and I need the pivot bearings pressed back in. It's going to take time, and I need to be out next weekend.
As a short / medium term solution, I want a HT frame, for two reasons. One, simple and relatively easy to rebuild and maintain compared to the FS. Second, a carry seat for a 1 year old (currently weighing about 12kg). Ideally, the frame will last until said child is old enough to ride her own bike.
I want to use my current components - a tapered 120mm Fox fork, 26" wheels on 9mm QR, SLX drivetrain and brakes. The rest of the kit doesn't matter really, I have a few bits. I'm not worried about material (all, steel or carbon all fine, just not ridiculously heavy).
The last requirement is cheap! I'm thinking second hand is the way to go - either a frame only, or a complete bike that uses a decent frame (i.e. the same frame throughout the whole range just with different components). I'd be looking to sell all the bits off to recover some of the costs.
I really need something very soon. I'm in Bedfordshire, don't mind travelling a short distance. If anyone knows of anything for sale, or has a good recommendation on what to look for, please let me know.
Are the Carrera frames any good?
Thanks!

Carrera HT frame, get one with the earlier 27.2mm seatpost as its lightest or at least pre 'bridge' from top tube to seat tube.
ZS44 headtube so will take tapered with an external bottom cup.
I still have my 2006 Kraken frame and am thinking of rebuilding it as a 27.5 or '759er' as a fun chuckabout.
Can typically be picked up for about £35, or get a low end one for about £100 and keep/sell the bits you don't need as spares.Currently riding a Whyte T130C, X0 drivetrain, Magura Trail brakes converted to mixed wheel size (homebuilt wheels) with 140mm Fox 34 Rhythm and RP23 suspension. 12.2Kg.0 -
Thanks Rookie. I'm looking at Carreras on eBay at the moment.
I've been back and forth on my options; I nearly won a 45650B on eBay at the weekend (and close by as well) but bottled it! The frame was in raw, and it looked pretty awesome. I also really like the Cotic frames. I really can't decide what to do!0
