Bike fit recommendation – London?

Can anyone recommend a bike fit specialist in or around central London, ideally based on recent experience?

Specifically, this is to get some extra insight for a bespoke frame build. That's going to be based on an existing frame that feels ~90% comfortable (and has never been professionally set up), but I want to make sure I'm not missing anything before things get spendy. That also means I could do with a fitter that can liaise with a designer (who doesn't handle fitting themselves), if need be, or at least suggest geometry changes, if required.

Incidentally, I have emailed the Bike Whisperer, but didn't get a reply, so they're crossed off the list...

I know nothing about this but so should shut up but is that usual? Wouldn't it be much better to find a builder who also fits so you don't get each blaming the other if your dream frame isn't quite right when finished?

They had a baby which I think has put work on hold.

The frame builder does all the work remotely based on my spec, which is perhaps a little unusual, but I suppose a professional bike fitter is better able to assess frame geometry for comfort and then the two can liaise for the best design. Having never commissioned a custom frame before, I don't know how common this approach is, but the builder has been doing it this way for a long time and has many, many positive reviews. I haven't pulled the trigger yet, so the fit is a first step to see how the proposed geometry will work – and will be useful for the template bike in any case. At least that's my plan...

Persist with trying to get hold of Scherrit, certainly worth it. Try to give him a call on 0118 971 2860

I've been using him for years and can highly recommend him.
  • Cyclefit know their stuff, they also provide bike fit support for Trek-Segafredo.

The other well known one is Bespoke, been in the shop a few times but never used any of their fit services personally.

Both of my custom bikes were built remotely, one following a bike fit at Bespoke and the other using that data, a frame that I knew fit and some basic measurements.

If you've already decided on the builder though, have a word with them and see what their preferred approach would be. Not much point paying for a full bike fit if it's not required.

Would very much recommend Roger Graver, was Mosquito, now Velorution www.velorution.com

They're at 123 Essex Rd, London N1 2SN I still use his fitting measurements to size new bikes now. I recommended him to 2 friends and they all said the same, very good! Not too many gadgets, just a lot of knowledge, time and attention to detail.

In the past couple of days I used the St James's Bespoke for a bike fit.

I was very impressed with the process. They made some pretty fundamental changes to my seat height and cleats. I haven't ridden the bike much since, so can't judge long-term impact of the fit, but just the relatively short ride home was significantly more comfortable and powerful. On my recent experience, I recommend them. I went to them based on recommendations on here and convenience.

Thanks everyone. Bike Whisperer did eventually surface, so I've tentatively gone with them as they already have a good relationship with the frame builder. Now just a 5-week wait for the fit...
