Bottom Bracket and Crank Compatability

I'm looking to upgrade my cheap road bike's crank so that I can have shorter crank arms. The only 160mm that I can really even find is this one so I'm really hoping that it's compatible with my bottom bracket. If anyone could help me find out what bottom bracket my bike has that'd be awesome. I can't find a make for the crankset so I really have no idea. The manufacturer said they'd get back to me Monday, but I'd rather order as soon as possible.

The crankset will most likely fit on your BB as they are most likely both square taper......

I thought I seen that in a video. Am I right in saying that if a crankset that has square taper ends is being replaced that any square taper replacement will fit onto it if the old spindle/whatever it's called is reused?

This is my first road bike so I'm still learning.

The "old spindle" as you call it is an integral part of the bottom bracket so once you've removed the existing cranks you will be left with the square taper BB in the frame with the square spindle ends sticking out. You will need a special crank puller tool to remove the existing cranks such as this

The removal process is described here:-

The new cranks should just push on to the square spindle ends - they may need a little persuasion with a rubber or wooden mallet to make sure they are fully seated before securing them in place

Thanks for the info. I think I'm just going to be patient and wait for a response from the manufacturer Monday to be sure of what the BB is.
