Recently bought a Defy Advanced 2 in matte red/black - https://www.giant-bicycles.com/gb/defy-advanced-2

Now i'm wishing I hadn't got the red!

I've only had a it a few weeks but wherever grease/grime gets on the frame it seems to sink into the painwork leaving a brownish finish when viewed at different angles. It comes off the surface just fine - it's very odd.

Is this just how it is with matte frames that aren't black?! Also I noticed today the top tube has almost like little spots on it that won't come off.

Has the clearcoat been damaged somehow or is there something else I can try to clean it? Been using muc-off degreaser, tried autogylm tar remover, muc off motorcycle degreaser etc.

Cheers

Have you tried the extortionate stuff like this:

    https://www.sigmasport.co.uk/item/Red-A ... 500ml/3L79

Probably no different from what you've tried just in a posher container with a mark-up but maybe try it if it's going to bother you.
  • Part n parcel of owning a matt frame unfortunately.

I have a Propel Advanced 2017 in the inverse colour scheme ... I know what you mean about the matt red parts showing up marks, especially grease. I've used the Red Ant Matt cleaner and protector, and they do work ... and I've also used Chemical Guys Meticulous Matt Quick Detailer (which is a protector as well). Both those have worked fine for me.

The Matt cleaner and polish work I have used the Matt polish and it helps prevent some of the marks

I've found neat washing up liquid works. Test on an inconspicuous area first though!

I use chain degreaser on my Matt frame, rinsed well after and it's fine
