Long shot, but does anyone know if you can get 2 x Bike Box Alans into the back of one of these? I can get two into a Golf but the hire place only has A Class Mercs left.

Go to your local Mercedes dealer with a tape measure and pretend you're interested in buying one but just need to check a couple of measurements first!

Depends on if old A class or new A class. Old A Class definitely (with the back seats down). New one no idea.

Don't suppose many (decent) rental companies are hiring out the old A Class

This - one old would swallow a horse.

Can't see why they would have reduced the interior space though between models - outside shape yup, but would be silly to reduce interior.

As above re tape measure or if they are a nice garage just be upfront and say what you are doing: they probably won't mind.

Bear in mind though that what you book as a hire car and what you get are generally two different things. I've booked everything from a Corvette to a five door family saloon and always end up with a bloody 1.3 Renault Megane Diesel.....

Only because they are completely different cars based upon completely different layouts. The old A Class had nearly everything located under the floor. Despite carrying 5 people in comfort, it was about a foot shorter than a Ford Fiesta. The new one is just a conventional hatchback.

Old 3.6m long by 1.6m tall
New 4.3m long by 1.4m tall

I've just discovered while out walking the dog this eve that one of the neighbours has one (new version A200) so I'll be trundling one of the BBA's round the block ASAP. However I reckon the boot lid might be an issue - it's an odd shape...

They have a pretty small rear hatch which I don't think is great for wide loads and I don't think there's a huge amount of height either.

I own a 2016 A class and a BBA - can't see you getting 2 in the back of the car.
