Numb Private area, how do I prevent it?

Basically the question is in the title. Yesterday I did a long ride and my penis got numb, I think its getting back to normal slowly haha. Anyway I want to make sure this does not happen again. I got the same saddle that came with the bike and its not the best one. My friend told me that I should get a saddle that has the middle cut out or something. I had a look at this one http://www.tredz.co.uk/.Specialized-Bod ... _57853.htm
But I don't want to rush into buying a new saddle, so any advice or tips to prevent the numbness would be appreciated.

Is your saddle in the correct position, height wise, to far forward or back, I read something about numbness on similar lines o yours ,(probably on this forum )and a proper bike fit sorted out the numbness0

What shorts are you using?
You may also want to change the position of your bars slightly, get someone that knows about bike positioning to take a look at your posture on the bike. or slide the saddle slightly forward, or slightly backward. Will depend on your current position.0 -
Try riding out of the saddle a bit more.0

Well I am probably going to invest in a new seat as I posted above. If I get it again I will take it to my local bike shop.
I think its the seat, it is just poor quality for long rides, because I don't get it on short rides. As I read through the other forum investing in a good seat is good either way.0 -
However if despite the numbness you are able to gain an erection you may be very popular with your other half.0

You can try a new saddle or first try adjusting your current one. I had numbness until I tilted my saddle up slightly , a friend had the same and fixed his by tilting it down slightly. It's personal fit and may take some trial and erroe0

Not being funny but how is your penis getting Knumb you don't sit on it! The area between your rectum & Scrotem is where your should be sitting on the saddle! You will hardened up & get used to the saddle & not get so saddle sore as you progress! But I too had problems getting saddle sore! I found a Selle italia C2 gel saddle helped & it had the cutout in the middle! Not to expensive either! I had a break from my 5 years of road biking & now a 17 mile ride gave me a sore backside! Just to long out of the saddle made me get sore!0

To the OP or anyone else reading this, don't listen to this!
Saddle soreness is one thing, and might, with more riding, stop. Saddle soreness and saddle sores are potentially fixed with cream.
However, what the OP is talking about won't be fixed by either time in the saddle or cream. Positional changes or a saddle change should be able to fix this!0 -
Use a saddle with a cut out. Try a Specialised Romin and make sure its the correct height, correct width and level in the middle third. Best buy one from a shop where they can make sure you have the correct width. You can do permanent damage, so get it sorted.Pegoretti

Alot of saddle issues are not down to the saddle but due to saddle positioning.
One case in point. Last saturday I did a bike fit. the customer said he needed a new saddle I said we'll see. I raised the seat to the proper height and levelled it out. he actually had the fore and aft set properly. Saddle discomfort went away.
Moral is even if you think your saddle is positioned right it may not be. If it is uncomfortable I would say it stand and least a 50% chance of not being positioned right. Fix that before buying anything else.http://www.thecycleclinic.co.uk -wheel building and other stuff.0 -
Have you tried massaging it?0

I use 2 saddles that work really well for me. It's the Fizik Tritone 5.5 and the ISM PS 1.0.
The Tritone is on my Aero bike and has a very short nose. It allows for a lot of forward hip rotation as well as a more relaxed upright position if needed. Very comfy. The texture is quite slippery, so it's easy to move around on the saddle if that's what you're looking for. The ISM allows for more forward hip rotation but does not allow for much movement. You're more locked in to a single "fixed" position. I recommend the Tritone as an all round saddle.0
