I'm going on a 14 day mountain bike tour in Nepal over christmas and taking my own bike. I've reserved the trip but haven't booked my flights yet. I'm looking for advice on airlines and routes. Anyone have any experience flying to Kathmandu with their bike? Any recommendations for airlines or airlines to avoid.

I didn't try taking a bike, but flew from Manchester with Qatar last year, changing in Doha. Flights were fine. I think there are cheaper but slower routes you can take.
Getting a tourist visa at the airport wasn't too much of a problem, coming out of the airport is a bit of an experience!

I didn't visit any of the bike shops when I was in Kathmandu (there seem to be a couple of decent ones). There seemed to be lots of places offering puncture repairs for motorbikes so I expect you can get replacement tyre/tubes etc no problem but probably not an XTR mech.
