Any problem with drilling drain holes in rim?

I have a pair of wheels build up with DT Swiss XM401 rims. After a recent ride which had a few creek crossings, there was a considerable amount of water sloshing around inside the rims, and it was still there a couple of days later. Is there any reason why I shouldn't drill a couple of holes in the "V" part of the rim so that water can drain out (i.e. just below where the brake track would be on a rim brake rim).
I notice that the Dura-Ace C24 wheels on my road bike come from the factory with a couple of ~1.5mm holes already drilled in the rim just below the brake track, presumably for this purpose.

Just let it dry out, its rarely a good idea to remove material from somewhere it's meant to be!Currently riding a Whyte T130C, X0 drivetrain, Magura Trail brakes converted to mixed wheel size (homebuilt wheels) with 140mm Fox 34 Rhythm and RP23 suspension. 12.2Kg.0

If the factory havent put them in - there may be a reason. LEave as is.0

Also keep in mind, a hole would work both ways!0
