Anyone know if shimano intend to bring out a single chainset groupset in the near future?
Or are they just going to leave that field open to SRAM?
And has anyone tried fitting a sram chainring onto a shimano 7900 chainset?
Cheers

This is a bit like spoke counts on wheels, where somehow the industry has convinced people that fewer is better.

They already have the Alfine stuff, but that's more aimed at 3-speed city bikes.

Single-chainrings are seemingly becoming a more popular option on the road especially in TT circles, but I wouldn't expect Shimano to be releasing anything new along those lines any time soon, I just don't think the demand is big enough.

I agree though, I'd like a decent Shimano single-speed setup (i.e. chainset + brake levers) on my commuting bike.

As for fitting a single-speed chainring to a 7900 chainset, you can do but it'd look a bit crap:

    Thanks!

That doesn't look too bad to my way of seeing

Absolute Black make little bolt covers for DA and Ultegra if fitting a single ring which makes it look almost factory.
I would assume Shimano will do this eventually, perhaps along with an 11 speed medium cage clutch mech as the CX/gravel market seems to be growing and currently miles behind SRAM.

Isn't Metrea Shimano's single chainset they released a couple of years ago?

The below shows Metrea on a H Bar Bike, but they look like bull horn bars to me....what do I know!

I hope not. I can't think of a better way to stuff up a road bike. Really don't get it :?

Wolftooth makes them, but look a little clunky to me. https://www.wolftoothcomponents.com/pro ... ano-cranks.

Skimming the blurb, it seems that Metrea is for non-conformist consumers

I can see the point for dedicated crit bikes or TT bikes, nice and clean look and in mst crits you would never get towards the top end of the cassette so dont have to worry about crossing the chain.

Must be easy enough to use a standard chainset and do away with the inner ring?
