New chain & hanger, now strange tickings/clickings...

As per title on SWMBOs bike: coming from rear wheel and making a sort of plinking noise like when an engine is cooling down. Thought it sounded like spokes but all seem ok. No issue with changing gears, all indexed ok so it's not the chain skipping on the cogs. Anyone else experienced this or got any clues as to what it might be? Cheers.

Something catching in the spokes? End of the rear derailleur cable? (probably not if you just changed the chain/hanger).

Does it tick when not pedalling?
Does it tick if you stand out of the saddle?
Does it tick if you turn the bike upside down and spin the wheel...backwards or forwards?

Just some of the different situations you can try to narrow down the search.
